Confidentiality

Your work with me is fully confidential. I will not disclose that you’re working with me, pass your personal data onto any third party, or disclose any information you share with me without your permission, other than in the following circumstances, which I will normally discuss with you beforehand. These are:

 -        risk of harm to yourself or others

-        child protection issues – ongoing risk of abuse

-        if ordered to do so by a court of law

-        information about any plan for an act of terrorism

It is a requirement of my professional body that I discuss my work in supervision in order to support me and to ensure that I work to your best interests.  Supervisors are bound by the same terms regarding confidentiality.

Data protection

I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office as a data controller (Registration No. ZA310129). Counsellors and psychotherapists are bound by the Data Protection Act and as such must inform you about information kept about you and gain your consent to keep such records. If you work with me, the following information will be held by me.

-        Your name, phone number and any messages between us will be kept on a passcode protected mobile phone.

-        A signed contract and any brief notes about your work with me are kept in a locked filing cabinet.

-        Online payment details appear on bank statements, seen by my accountant.

-        Email correspondence is password protected.

It is a professional requirement that I have a clinical executor, who can contact you if I’m in an unforeseen emergency. As such I share a password protected version of my client list (name, phone number and email) with a psychotherapist colleague.

Ethical commitment

I adhere to the BACP’s code of ethics, which can be found here. I discuss my work regularly in supervision to ensure I work to your best interests.
